How much does TCF Canada cost? Prices are set by each centre

Checked November 1, 2026

There is no single TCF Canada price. Each approved centre sets its own, so the only number you can rely on is the one your centre quotes you. France Éducation international (FEI), which runs the test, tells candidates to contact the centre for the price, the dates and the format.

What centres charge

Here are two prices read on centres’ own pages, in different currencies. They show how far apart centres can be. They are not a reference price, and they can change.

Centre Price for the TCF Canada As of
Alliance Française d’Edmonton (Canada) $400 for the full exam, as shown on its page 1 November 2026
Institut français du Maroc (Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tanger, Agadir) 2,900 DH October 2026

On 1 November 2026, Edmonton listed 15 sessions between 2 and 20 November, all at $400. Registration was closed on all of them, and 14 were sold out. A cheaper centre with no free session is not cheaper for you.

A price from a forum or a video may be out of date or belong to another centre, so confirm it with the centre.

Centres also set their own session dates and decide whether a session is on paper or on computer. That is why the same exam can cost $400 in one city and 2,900 DH in another, and why converting one price will not tell you what another centre charges.

What the price covers

TCF Canada is one exam made up of 4 mandatory tests, listening, reading, writing and speaking, 2 h 47 in total. You cannot choose tests or pay per skill, so a quoted “full exam” price covers all four. TCF Québec is different. It is modular (1 to 4 tests) and meant for permanent immigration to Québec, while TCF Canada is the one for IRCC files. The comparison has the detail.

Before paying, ask your centre whether your session is on paper or on computer, and whether the price it quoted is the full amount you will pay.

Finding your centre’s price

  1. Open FEI’s map of approved TCF centres and pick a centre near you. You may register at any centre you choose.
  2. Check the centre’s website, or write to it, for the TCF Canada price, the next session dates and the format.
  3. Compare the total, not just the fee. Count travel, a night away if the nearest centre is far, and the wait for the next free session.

Registration steps are in how to register for TCF Canada.

Pay the centre itself, and check that it is on FEI’s map before you send money. That is our advice, not an FEI rule. The map is FEI’s list of approved centres, and a centre missing from it may not be approved.

Budget beyond the exam fee

Item Question to answer
Exam fee What does your centre charge for the full TCF Canada?
Travel Is the nearest centre in your city, or do you need a day or a night away?
Retake If writing or speaking falls short, can you afford a second sitting 20 days or more later?
Timing Will your attestation (valid 2 years) still be in date when you create your profile and when you apply?

Timing is a cost too. IRCC requires results less than 2 years old at both stages, so an attestation that expires before you apply means paying again. Sitting the exam closer to your application is cheaper than sitting early. The date logic is on results and validity.

Preparation does not have to cost anything. FEI itself points candidates to free practice, Le français facile avec RFI for listening and TV5Monde for the mandatory tests. It also says the TCF measures general ability in French and is not tied to a course, so no particular course is required to sit it.

Refunds, postponement and lateness

  • In a force majeure case (illness, transit problem, strike, death of a relative, work obligation), you can get a refund or a postponement if you give the centre proof within 5 weeks of the session start date.
  • Nobody is admitted once the listening test has started, and a late candidate is not refunded, except for force majeure.
  • A change of mind or of plans is not on FEI’s list. Ask your centre about its own conditions before you pay.

Retaking the exam

You must wait 20 days between two sittings, and your centre sets the price of each one. Before paying again, you can check a practice text. NCLC Prep scores one out of 20 with the matching NCLC range, as a practice estimate and not the official score (try it).
