Is there a pass mark for TCF Canada?
Checked November 1, 2026
No. TCF Canada has no pass or fail. Your results sheet gives a score or mark and a level for each skill, and whether that is enough depends only on the level required by the body you are applying to.
You receive a score for listening and one for reading, a mark out of 20 for writing and another out of 20 for speaking, and a CEFR level for each skill, from “A1 non atteint” to C2.
So the pass mark is whatever your application requires. For Express Entry, IRCC reads your scores as NCLC levels.
- Federal Skilled Worker Program needs NCLC 7 in all four abilities in your first official language.
- Canadian Experience Class needs NCLC 7 for TEER 0 or 1 jobs and NCLC 5 for TEER 2 or 3.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program needs NCLC 5 in speaking and listening and NCLC 4 in reading and writing.
Programs ask for different levels, so find the one that applies to you instead of aiming for a generic score. The same result can be enough for one application and not for another.
The conversion from scores to NCLC is in the table here, the TCF Canada score chart. The NCLC calculator does it for you.
