The CPF (compte personnel de formation) is the training account that people working in France can spend on courses and certifications. Candidates living in France often ask whether it covers TCF Canada. The answer rests on two facts, one from France Éducation international (FEI), which designs the TCF, the other from IRCC.

Which TCFs are CPF eligible

On its CPF page, FEI writes that among its certifications, TCF tout public and TCF Intégration, Résidence et Nationalité are CPF eligible. TCF Canada is not on that list, and we found no France Compétences Répertoire spécifique entry for it.

A few details from the France Compétences entries.

TCF tout public. The CPF pays only for the full exam, with its five tests, language structures included. Its entry expires on December 21, 2026.
TCF IRN. It is used for the French resident card and French nationality.
Centres. FEI says only its approved centres in France can be listed for the CPF. A centre abroad cannot take CPF payment.

Why a TCF tout public does not count for immigration

IRCC accepts two French tests for Express Entry, TCF Canada and TEF Canada. A TCF tout public, even with a very good score, is not accepted. The differences between the two tests are in TCF Canada or TCF tout public.

So be careful with CPF-funded “TCF training” offers. Read which test is included. If it is TCF tout public, the course may help your French, but the exam at the end will not count for your file, and you will have to pay for a TCF Canada as well.

Even for an eligible course, the CPF is not free. Service-public.fr stated on June 27, 2026 a 150 € contribution you pay yourself, unless your employer tops up your account, and the 2027 finance bill plans to raise it.

Paying for TCF Canada

TCF Canada is paid to the centre, at the price it sets. Prices for Paris and other cities are in TCF Canada in France, and what the fee covers in TCF Canada price. If you are employed, you can ask your employer to pay for it, but as far as we know no rule requires them to.
