No TCF Canada date available, how do I find a test slot?
Checked November 3, 2026
There is no central calendar. Each approved centre sets its own sessions, seats and price, and you may register at any centre you choose. When your centre is full, look for other centres on France Éducation international’s map, ask when the next session opens, and compare with TEF Canada, which IRCC also accepts. Only pay the centre itself.
Why it is full
FEI doesn’t run registration. Its handbook tells candidates to ask their test centre for the session calendar. Each centre decides how many sessions and seats it offers. One full centre doesn’t mean they all are.
Where to look
- Other centres in your city and nearby cities. The map of TCF centres lists them. They include, for example, Alliances françaises, Instituts français and universities, and one city may have several. A day’s travel can save weeks.
- A neighbouring country. You may register at any centre you choose, and the test is the same everywhere. Allow for travel, any visa and the local price, and make sure the passport you gave at registration is the one you will show.
- Your centre’s next calendar. Ask when registration for the next session opens and how it works (online, in person, at a set time). Being ready that day matters more than anything. We know of no typical lead time, it varies by centre and season, so ask directly.
- Cancellations. Ask the centre whether it keeps a waiting list or puts freed seats back online. It is the centre’s call.
- TEF Canada. IRCC accepts both tests. A TEF Canada sitting available sooner may be the better choice (see which one is easier).
Before you pay
- Only pay the approved centre. A “guaranteed seat” sold by a middleman, for example on social media, doesn’t go through the centre, and nothing proves it exists.
- Check that it is TCF Canada, not TCF Québec or TCF tout public.
- Check the format, paper or computer, and the price, which varies by centre (price).
- Check your timeline. For a paper session, results arrive at the latest 15 working days after FEI receives the papers (the handbook gives no delay for a full computer session, so ask the centre), and a retake needs 20 days after the previous sitting.
Which date to aim for
If you have a target (Express Entry profile, a round, a permit), start from the date you need the certificate by and work back. Allow for the results delay, then room for a second attempt in case the first misses your NCLC. The rules are in registering for TCF Canada and retaking TCF Canada.
The wait before your session is a good time to work on writing, if that is the skill keeping you from NCLC 7. Write one task to see your mark today.
