Where to take TCF Canada in the USA, and what the exam costs

Fees by centre

Fee for the full exam (all four tests), read on each centre’s page on 3 November 2026.

Centre	Fee	Note
New York	$399	$350 members, plus a $15 admin fee
Denver	$360	November and December sessions sold out
Philadelphia	$360	$340 members
Pasadena	$460	12 November session closed
San Diego	$499	For 2027, $450 members
Los Angeles	$505	Full version
San Francisco	Not shown	Fee only visible when booking

Fees are in US dollars. A member belongs to that city’s Alliance Française, and membership is paid separately. Pasadena includes registration fees and adds 3.5% for credit card payments. The exam is on computer in New York, Denver, San Diego and San Francisco, but Philadelphia says its test is on paper. See paper or computer.

Cities without TCF Canada

Several large Alliances do not offer it, according to their exam pages.

• Chicago offers TCF tout public and TCF IRN, not TCF Canada, plus TEF Canada.
• Washington now offers only the TCF DAP and points immigration candidates to TEF Canada.
• Boston (French Library) runs the TEF only.
• Atlanta runs neither the TCF nor the TEF.

We found no working official site for Miami or Houston, and no TCF on the exam pages of Seattle, Austin, Portland and Dallas. IRCC accepts TEF Canada on the same terms, see TCF or TEF Canada.

Centre rules

• New York. One or two sessions a month, in Manhattan or Montclair (New Jersey), with a deadline about two weeks before. A transfer costs $50 and a cancellation before the deadline $80. Be available from 9 am to 6 pm.
• San Diego. At most four candidates per session, in person only. Registration for 12 January 2027 is open from 20 October 2026 to 5 January 2027.
• Denver. Register up to about a week before the exam, no refund once the test is bought, free waiting list.
• Philadelphia. Registration closes one month before the exam, no refund within the 30 days before it.
• Pasadena. Registration closes two weeks before, fees not refundable. The deadline for the 12 November 2026 session was 20 October.
• Los Angeles. One calendar for every TCF version, without saying which dates are TCF Canada. Register by email at least 15 days before. Ask whether your date offers the Canada version.
• San Francisco. The exam is in person. Since January 2026, a valid passport is needed at registration. 2027 dates are due in late November 2026.

Before you pay

1. Check the centre is on FEI’s TCF centre map. We only say these centres list TCF Canada on their sites.
2. Many late 2026 sessions are sold out. Look at several cities, and at Canada if you live near the border, see TCF Canada in Canada. If nothing is free, read no date available.
3. Check the name on your passport matches your registration.

Registration steps are in how to register, and what the fee covers in TCF Canada price.

At $360 to $505 a sitting, it is worth knowing where your writing stands before you pay. Write one practice task and get an estimated mark.
